THE GUY BARKER JAZZ ORCHESTRA

About This Event

James Brown, Managing Director of Hazard Chase comments:

“My brother Robert died of pancreatic cancer ten years ago, precisely thirteen weeks from diagnosis. Like most people, until then I knew very little about what I subsequently learned is one of the most intractable problems in medicine. Less than 7% of people with pancreatic cancer will survive for 5 years in the UK. Although there has been a slight improvement in these figures in recent years, due to the efforts so many people have made to fund research in to earlier diagnosis and treatment, vastly more money is needed. Pancreatic Cancer UK is a brilliant charity, which was quite new when we first contacted them in 2008, but is now a substantial organisation, performing a vital role in the fight to beat the disease, not least in lobbying for more generous funding from the government and other charities. They also provide invaluable help for patients and their families. Hazard Chase is proud to support the charity by promoting and managing fundraising concerts in London. Speaking for myself, I continue to do this because if just one family does not have to go through what we did, it is worth it.”

About Pancreatic Cancer UK

Pancreatic cancer remains both the lowest surviving and the quickest killing cancer. Facts that are completely unacceptable. Pancreatic Cancer UK is the leading charity in the UK tackling the disease on all fronts with the goal to double survival rates and transform the future for everyone affected. Pancreatic Cancer UK has three key aims:

• To invest in ground-breaking research into early diagnosis and new treatments to find the breakthroughs that are so desperately needed to improve survival outcomes

• To provide specialist information and support for patients and families to cope with their diagnosis and live as well as they can today. This includes running a specialist nurse helpline and information and support programmes

• To campaign for change amongst policy makers and those working in the healthcare system calling for better care, treatment and research as well as demanding that the disease gets the recognition it needs

Pancreatic Cancer UK receives no government funding so is 100% reliant on the generosity and good will of supporters and funders. The charity would like to extend their grateful thanks to James Brown, all at Hazard Chase, the artists, guests and donors for their fantastic support.
